Welcome

The Northern Area Tenants Service (NATS) provides a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL service to all tenants in the northern area of Sydney. This includes Department of Housing tenants, community housing tenants and caravan park residents.

We cover the local governments areas of Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Ku-ring-gai, Lane cove, Manly, North Sydney, Mosman, Pittwater, Ryde, Warringah and Willoughby.

NATS provides advice on the full range of issues relating to tenancy. These include: bonds, signing agreements, getting repairs done, access and privacy, terminating a tenancy, resolving disputes and taking issues to the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal.

We send out written information, or refer tenants to electronic data so they can pursue their own issues, resolve their own problems and be empowered by this process. We can also assist with advocacy where appropriate. This can include talking to landlords or real estate agents to resolve problems, helping tenants prepare cases and providing representation at Tribunal hearings. However, due to our limited resources we can only provide representation in a minority of cases. This assistance is generally reserved for disadvantaged tenants. We can however support and assist all tenants who are involved in tribunal hearings by offering ongoing telephone advice.

We can arrange for interpreting when needed. The service ensures it is accessible to tenants from non-English speaking background.

We also aim to empower tenants through raising the general level of knowledge of tenancy laws by delivering community education.

Please note: We do not assist with searching for accommodation and we do not assist landlords or real estate agents with inquiries.
